Just as it seemed my mother was mostly addicted to iceberg lettuce (true, she'd try chicory or escarole, but we'd refuse its bitterness), I became addicted to romaine. For a while I ate hygroponic boston lettuce, but then the guy I got it from shut his stand at the greenmarket, and it was back to romaine.

I've been thinking more lately about the vegan route, and wanting to up the nutrient level of the food I normally eat. Hence this salad. Blackberries are super-high in antioxidants, and apparently, the darker and/or redder the lettuces  or cabbages you eat, the healthier you will be, too. Easy change for me, and turned out delicious, especially with a sprinkle of walnuts mixed in.
